Today I got 2 dozen brown eggs from the local farm. Hip hip hurray!!!
400

I put them in around 11am. So I guess tomorrow at 11am well be day 1 or end of day 1.

The temp is still climbing since I had it unplugged yesterday. I marked one dozen 1-12 and the 2nd dz is a-l... I got one egg that is bigger than the rest. Lol.

Yey.

Good luck with your hatch, hope it is a good one! Should get some nice egg layers out of that.

Thanks. :) So far Day 1 or whatever was today, went okay. The temperature was a bit fluxing up and down, but i think I got it. The thermometer that came with the incubator was off the charts but the electronic thermometer has been reading 100 since 4-5pm. I check on it periodically. It's standing sideways at the edge of the inside... (I hope this is okay).

I made a spreadsheet on MS word about candling. I think my first initial candling will happen day 3. That seems so far away from now. lol.

I started incubating today at 11am. So May 21st will be day One, May 22nd will be day 2...

I hope this is correct, please correct me if i am wrong.

After a fluxing incubator the first day, i thought I honestly got the temp down pat since it read 100 since 5pm last night. So I go to check on it at 8am and it read 102!!!! OMG. Why the sudden jump?

I am hoping everything is still okay. I quickly turned the temp down and opened the incubator just for a few seconds to cool it down quickly. EEEkkk!

I'm not new at this but my incubator at been in storage since last year.

Hope the incubator straightens up! Day three will be here before you know it, hope you see lots of chicks. 102 shouldn't hurt them, they do fluctuate as they are heating so seeing 102 once in a while, as long as the average is 99.5-100 or so, isn't really a problem even if it scares you!

Thanks. It was at 100 all day, i Kid you not. i just checked on it, and it reads 102 again. so i decreased the temperature. I know i am scared and anxiety filled but 102 is a bit much.

Yesterday, I decided I couldn't wait any more and candled a few eggs.. lol.
I could see mostly nothing in them, but one egg had the faint blood ring, i think this is good?
They are brown eggs so its a bit harder to see what exactly is in them. lol.

One egg is too porus though, but i think I did have success with a porus egg though in the past. I think.

I usually wait a few more days to candle just so things are easier to see. Usually day five to seven or so is really easy for me, can see things earlier of course. You should be seeing blood vessels, you don't want a blood ring as such, though sometimes what looks like a blood ring turns out fine so I wouldn't cull an egg just because of that right now, especially brown eggs which are a little harder to see. not sure if you have seen this nice Learning Center article with day by day pics https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/candling-pics-progression-through-incubation-of-chicken-eggs One problem with porous eggs is they tend to lose too much water compared to the other eggs, so they do have a lower hatch% if you keep your humidity so the other normal eggs are happy
