I got in my 27 chicks from McMurray today. All were happy and healthy! Yeah!! I got the free exotic chick and they sent me an extra pearl white leghorn pullet!! I have been so worried about these guys! They made it. After I ordered I had read so many horror stories about having DOA chicks. I am so relieved! I got 19 pearl white leghorns, 3 americanas, 2 black sex links, 1 partridge cochin, 1 black cochin, and 1 rare exotic chick (mainly black with a white spot on his head) I don't know what he is. I am selling half this order to the local feed store. They waited too long to order chicks and the wait was to long. They said farmers kept coming in and asking if they were getting some. I will be selling 15 pearl white leghorns. I tore a ligament in my ankle so I decied to make it easier on dh! He isn't crazy about this chicken thing.

I got mine last week. I ordered the 25 and got 4 extras. So far, I have lost 7. It is very sad and they did give me a credit for the first 5 I lost. But, today, another one dead when I checked them. They all appeared healthy, ate, drank and everything was right for them. It is very sad and is breaking my heart every morning when I walk in there. Good Luck.

Congrats on your new babies!!

That's great that you're able to sell a bunch of them. I think it's easier to start with a smaller flock anyhow; you learn their personalities a lot quicker

Thanks, I have lost 4 golden sebrights, 2 mille fleurs (just this afternoon), and 2 Japanese bantams. According to the hatchery, the rare breeds have a much lower success rate. I am supposed to get a shipment from Strombergs in May....I hope that goes better and the breeds I chose are stronger. One thing I have learned is to have a special rehab place for those that turn weak. Because once the others sense they are weak...well, it isn't pretty. Not that I would know this in the middle of the night, just saying what I have learned.
Have fun with them, they are so cute.

I ordered 25 Polish from them that are coming next week. I am praying for warmer weather here in NY and a safe and healthy shipping. I didn't realize that the more rare breeds have a lower success rate. Now Im worried. Everyone is so excited it would be terrible to have a lot of heartache.

I got my chicks 3/7 from McMurray Hatchery. I got a total of 31 chicks and I still have 29. They are doing great. McMurray is the best.

I don't think it has anything to do with the hatchery. I think it is a breed issue. The mix of breeds I received were just not compatible with each other. I am happy to report that other than a foot issue with my sultans I did not wake up to any problems today!!! And no dead chicks. This has more to do with the survival of the fittest than a hatchery.

I received my 26 chicks, plus 1 free extra, plus 1 free exotic from McMurray on 03/14. All are heritage breeds and a free EE. All are doing well and are getting feathered out. I am completely satisfied with my first chicken experience thus far. My only complaint was that MMH provided a USPS tracking number but the USPS didn't provide tracking info. I was a nervous wreck.
