I Got MORE Chickens !!!! , I'm totally addicted (pics)

Laurena,
Sometimes people will cut the top part of the beak really short so the birds can't peck at each other. However, it makes it much harder for them to eat food (they have to scoop) and they really can't peck on the ground, not to mention that it hurts the bird and most of us here don't approve of it. It looks like this may have been done to your new birds at one point, but the beak is growing back. You, or that man you got them from, may have rescued them from someplace that didn't treat them well.
Congrats with them! They are beautiful and healthy and look like they are having a great time at their new place!

Thanks for the info . They were originally purchased as chicks (by the man I purchased them from) , so would have the hatchery done that to them ?

I don't agree with debeaking and would never have that done to a bird , poor babies .

They seem perfectally happy and healthy and seem to have no problems eating or drinking .

Oh, Laurena i didn't mean that i thought you'd debeaked them, i'm glad they've gone to such a good home. You obviously love them to pieces already

We had a rescued battery hen called Eva who had been debeaked. It never grew back but she didn't seem disadvantaged with it at all. She could eat just fine, although it took her a while longer to demolish tomatoes than our other hens, but i don't know if that was because of her beak or because she'd never eaten a tomato before, or just because she enjoyed flinging it about the place

I don't agree with debeaking either. I guess they might have come from the hatchery like that...?
