I got my chicks, all alive, and am thrilled. I did the vent check and have one that seemed pasty. The problem is there seems to be something stuck, but not on the vent. If you have kids, do you remember when they were born and the umbilical cord was that dried up little brown thing? This thing looks like that and seems pretty stuck on and I don't want to hurt her by pulling it off.

It's not a picture of the dried lump, but it is cute

Sounds like a rough naval - it would be just below the vent area.

Just leave it alone. If there is any dried up string looking thing coming off it I just snip with a scissors close to the body to help deter pecking by the other chicks.

Worst case the other chicks will figure that brown dried up bit of flesh looks mighty good for pecking - if so you'll need to separate out that chick and may be one more for company until it completely falls off.

The chick should be fine! Cute babies too

My baby had that. Things turned out just fine. Ditto the PP.

I just had one hatch two days ago and it looked almost like a little red tumor at first and now it's just a little brown dot...dried up nice...hopefully it falls off soon. The chick is very active and seems fine tho. I didn't do anything with it...just left it alone. I have to search for it now through all it's fluffy fur.

Very cute litle buggers. Any idea what breed they are? I have two chicks just like that and the feed store guy told me that they were black sex links but I would like to know for sure?

  7. umm yeah Mine had that, and when I did a vent check I saw it and it had poop hanging off of it, so I pulled it off. it didn't seem to hurt her, I felt bad because I searched up later that night about chick anatomy and found that out, I felt really bad, But now she is doing fine, she runs, flies, eats, chases her sis. I thought she would hate me, but whenever I come in view of her, she comes running up to me and sits on my foot!

So yeah I didn't do anything with the other chick, because it also had poop on it, and that thing your talking about just fell off, gone!
