They are very cute! Only lost 1 in shipping and another one is dying,I think.Falling over, eyes closed, shaking. The rest look healthy.
I was wondering, though; they were peeping like crazy when they were in the shipping box but now when they are in the brooder, they are quieter.Peeping not so loud and they are scattered around. Are they content?
Btw I ordered 15 chicks from Townline Hatchery. I ended up with 17 plus the 2 dead ones! The extra ones are probably roosters aren't they?
Do I contact them and tell them about the dead ones?

It's optional to tell them of 2 deceased out of a medium-sized order. If all were dead, then definitely.

When chicks peep incessantly, it could be that they are cold. So if your chicks got quieter once settled into your brooder, they are probably content, and VERY tired from being shipped.

Enjoy your beauties!

Yeah, got mine this morn too. They were peeping like crazy in the box at the PO and on the 5min drive to my house. 100 of em!
Once inside the brooder they quieted down a little bit. Started eating and drinking immediately. None were DOA, which amazes me after 2 days in unheated travel.
My understanding is that the peeping (to a degree) is good b/c they are happy. I have read that silent chicks are unhappy, and if they are chirping, they are happy because they are active.

Got mine this morning also. From Mo to northern Wa in 48 hours, so it HAD to be a cold trip. Ordered 15, got 16 and no DOA's, amazingly. They were pretty noisy too, and calmed down to contented peeping once they got in the warm brooder and had some warm sugar water. Just the occasional happy chirp now and then, and VERY noisy when I clean their water and papers, lol! Took to the crumbles right away, too! SOOOOOO cute...

And everything I've read says if they're huddled too close, they're cold; far from the light, too hot; so it sounds like you're doing it right!
