It has been a terrible day overall for us. Around midnight last night I got a call from my vet that my sweet little chihuahua girl Sweet Pea had died, and today I went to go pick her up so I could bury her. After a morning spent crying and trying to console my devastated 9 yr old daughter, I went out to the coop to make sure everyone had food and water. I cleaned out their water dish while my 10 yr old DD fed them, and when I went into the coop to see if maybe someone had laid, low and behold, there it was, my first egg! I don't know who laid it, but I was so thrilled to see it sitting there. It was perfect, light brown and BIG! The suspects are either my sexlinks, my wyandottes, or my black australorp. Unfortunately we can't eat as I just treated the birds for Coccidia in the last two days, but the fact that my girls are laying now is exciting, and it put a more positive turn on this sad, sad day. I just wanted to share the fact that we got our first egg.
