We had a swap meet for central/north Florida and OldTimeGator had some Buff Orpingtons she brought for another lady and was giving them away. I have Silkies, but my mother was wanting to get into chickens and preferred a heavy breed. Well she got what she asked for, these suckers are HUGE!
Here they are with my Silkie:
And just some shots of them. They have gorgeous feathers!
It's so hard to photograph chickens, they move soooo much! But I love this one of him moving:
Fully upright, they are just over 2 feet tall:
My silkies stress out going up the steps to the chicken house and we are probably going to put some more steps on it to make it easier for them to get, but the Orps, they easily use every other step or just make one jump up into the house.
I was REALLY worried how they would react to my lone silkie Oprah. When I through them in the cage the first night they made one move at Oprah and she ran out of sight. The next day all was good and the Orps were cleaning her! (Oprah gets yogurt all in her fro and all over the place.)
So, we'll be keeping them with Oprah until my mother's coop gets finished.
