I gots me a wet duck

i have a one year old mallard male.
all of a sudden sometime during the winter i noticed he was wet.
feathers were all saturated.
what is wrong with him?
something happen with his oil glands somehow?
i feel bad, cause he looks miserable

help!

Do his feathers look ratty, too?

He might be ready to molt and get him some new feathers for Spring.

Or is it he gets waterlogged fast when he swims? If so, and if he lets you, press a warm washcloth to his oil gland, because it might be clogged. You may need to repeat a few times.
