we lost 3 hens this afternoon in the yard. i let them fr for awhile, we were only gone about an 1hr, come home and find 1 right in the yard not eaten or anything, just lots of feathers. proceed to bury speck then notice more feathers in the field, look over the wall and see 1 of the other aracuanas in the stream bed dead, not eaten , same as speck, then proceed to bury that aracuana, and go for a walk further into the stream bed, finally find the missing buff only this time she was 1/2 eaten mostly in the mid section and some missing feathers in the neck area. not sure what got them but after looking at the predator article, i'm thinking a dog? however our dog was locked in the house and he can't go to where they were killed. and the neighbors dog is a small dog and he rarely leaves their sight if hes out. i was also considering a fisher cat or coyote, but whikle walking the stream bed i found no tracks. we've also had a red tail hawk around, but i don't think they kill 3 at a time. we've been predator free for over a year and finally i think it caught up w/ us, the remaining 5 hens will be under permanant lock and key in their run.
