I had my first duck die yeaterday. She was a little over a year old, and healty. She had a limp for a few days, but they do that that from time to time. I let the kids out of there pen in the morning, and she stayed in the house. It was odd, but I just thought she may still have an egg to lay. When I went to clean the coop in the afternoon she was sitting on 2 eggs and well...

I was wondering if this was out of the ordinary.

She may have become egg bound?? When did she last lay?? Ducks are generally fairly hardy- and if sick should have exhibited some symptoms.

I had a duck get egg bound two years ago and she limped and was lethargic for a few days. Luckily, she passed the weird, mangled, inside-out lump of yolk, membrane, and shell, I upped her calcium intake (her problem was a calcium deficiency), and she survived.

It sounds a little like egg-binding to me. It could have also been a number of other things, including some genetic defect that you could never have seen or known about. I'm sorry for your loss.

I didn't check her over in great detail. I had noticed that there had been a reduction in the amout of eggs the past few days. Perhaps she was egg bound. Thanks for the input!
