Spatch- my 3.5 yr old Bielefelder was fight and chasing Moon-my 1 yr old Blue Copper Marans. One day last week both were bloody, and Spatch was chased off into the woods. He spurred me twice pretty bad, and countless times threatened to do so for a month. His hens saw him get the snot beat out of him and left him for Moon, who took up Spatches roost space. I had to put Spatch down—It was hard-HARD!! But I did it lest he be fatally wounded and suffer. I put him under my fav white pine in the corner of my land (Isengard), all the while thinking over and over, solve for peace solve for peace.
RIP my sweet Spatch. You were a very good boy!!

Sometimes you do everything that you can, but it still just doesn't work out.

The hens voted for their preferred rooster. And for those of us not in your heartbreak, it seems like the good choice.

You gave him a great life, and every chance, and in the end, you solved for peace in the flock. {{{{{Hugs}}}}}

Very pretty Bielefelder. I also have an aggressive Roo and know it will be hard when that time comes.

Most of us have learned the hard way about human aggressive roosters! And now, I don't wait for that 'first strike' because I can see it's coming ahead of time!
This spring I had a very nice cockerel who was trying to impress the hens, and his sire wasn't having it. Daily drama in the flock! The cockerel and two pullets moved to another home, and instantly peace arrived again in our flock. The new owner was delighted, and so were our hens and roosters. Peace!
Mary
