My girls haven't been laying for about a month and a half now, 2 went broody and now have chicks and 1 hen died ( can't expect much from her) and the other I think is jealous or lonely cause she doesn't have any chicks but she isn't laying either. So I had to buy my first lot of store bought eggs in a year, I didn't want to, I made sure I bought free range eggs. Any one else having or had this problem with a small flock?

I only have 4 girls and a few weeks ago I finally had to buy eggs too. I held out forever. they all decided to have their first molt 1 after another right before it got chilly. they stop laying for almost 2 months. wouldnt you know they started laying again a week after I bought eggs. I took all the store bought eggs and made a huge batch of egg salad.

My ducks stopped laying reliably in December. They are just now all laying again. I blame the horrible weather.

I wormed my crazy chickens yesterday....Had been getting around 8 eggs from 13 hens. Today, wouldn't you just know it, I got 10 eggs. The weather is horrible, their run is a muddy mess, they're mad at me because I won't let them out to paddle around in our yard, but they still layed...

My condolences.

You;re husband wants the store bought eggs? ??? I hate when I have to buy the store eggs now. So runny and so sad to think about the chickens, even if they are supposedly free range. I have heard that is not an official regulated distinction. They may only have the door open for 5 minutes a day. So sad!
