Sorry your roo had to go but good on your for taking care of your littles first. Even a small rooster can do some damage, and the emotional impact can last a long long time.He was bought as a very young bird with two hens the same age.ii have young grandchildren who he has tried to attack along with me.ihad to sell him today.i know he took very good care of his hens but I couldn't risk the grand kids getting hurt, no more roosters for me
My wife was attacked as a child, and now at 38(she would not mind me stating her age), she is cautious around our cockerel. He is a Splash Orp, will be 6 months old on Oct.2(we got him at 16 weeks). I did a lot of research on gentle rooster breeds and it came down to Orp's and Brahma's. I am very happy with my choice. Pig Pen is a little standoffish, usually doesn't like it if you come into his "bubble", but will take treats from our hands(that took 3 weeks of patience) and allows us to hold him without much fuss and submits quickly when we do need to inspect him. She still doesn't trust him because he is a rooster, but she is getting more used to him and taking baby steps toward the trust. He will go though at the slightest sign of aggression toward any human.and the emotional impact can last a long long time.
