Tis true...Cd's, pie pans, shiny disco balls, any thing that will reflect the sun slows them down. Ive got guineas and they alert on anything. I can NOT stress enough about getting a good LGD dog. I have a grt pyr that sleeps mostly in the day but if she hears that call the roos do she will come...Also windmills will work to. I havent had that much luck with the owl thing because if you dont move it around every so often, they will know its not real. Just go to you tube and look at all the videos of hawks attacking fake owls. If yours free range, there is really no 100% answer...They will always be risk to hawks. Also a radio set to a talk station outside will deter them as well...Yes crows run them off but you kinda have to watch the crows if you have baby chicks..They will take them if given the chance
