I hate my incubator. help wanted

Finish the hatch... Don't worry to much about this hatch... Sounds like you may need a new thermostat.... LG's are famous for that trick... I had one that did the same thing... Still had a hatch... Room temperature changes are a BIG DEAL .... The next hatch same thing and it got progressively worse...I was told to get a new wafer.... I just ditched the bator and bought a Hove... I am satified with it... Best idea for the money... Get on the build your own section of BYC and I built one that works great!!! A lot of pride in something that works good.

Otherwise I recommend a Hovabator with all the whistles and bells... the preset one.. they run about 180. Totally brainless and worth it too!!!

The temperature in the room should not cause major heat swings. The thermostat is designed to add heat when needed and should not let the temperature swing if working right. One of the biggest problems people have is the wafer and micro switch. I change mine at the beginning of every season. It's not that expensive and sure can decrease headaches.

The temperature swing with a still air is because the thermostat measures air at the location of the sensor, or wafer. Temps are not evenly distributed without a fan. When the air is cooler outside the therm is pushing to raise the temp, once the bater gets warm on the outside it has stored heat and the temp climbs, as the outside temp climbs. Also people have a habit of turning up the bator when temps drop of a night. Then when the room temp rises the bator is at a higher setting. This is why a fan usually cures the problem. But as long as eggs are rotated in the bator, and there is a stable environment in the room good hatches can be had with a still air.

Another solution for many is to cover the bator with a towel of a night if you have temp swings in the room. I made a mistake with my bators and did not keep the boxes, they would have been perfect to cover the bators of a night. But I don't have problems with mine, like the old infomercial for the rotisserie oven I "set it and forget it".

your thermostat should control the heat in the bator despite room temps..Unless your room is over 102 degrees, your bator should never spike hot..

I have one of my 3 bators set near a window where it catches the afternoon sun.. i has never gone over 100F in the last 3 months.. why? because the thermostat is working and it is set correctly..that is what a thermostat does...
