I hate this polar vortex!

As a fellow Ohioan and proud owner of 2 totally spoiled Rouens, I’ve been freaking out about this ridiculous cold also! Unfortunately there is no power running to their coop so I’ve been forced to place my faith in deep straw.... and warm water. Every morning and afternoon I lug several buckets of warm water and pour it in their water tub. They love to sit in their personal hot tub for a good soak! Like I said- spoiled.

I’m beginning to realize that our feathered friends are far more hardy than us humans.

So, my 11 ducks, all Muscovies, Pekins, and a blue Swedish were in their small run, which is wrapped in heavy plastic. I have no straw, someone keeps buying it up (70+ bales at a time!), there's just none to be found anywhere, so I have a ton of shavings in all the coops. Anyway, all the ducks, with a heat lamp going, were shivering like crazy. Even burrowed into shavings, they were just so cold. I brought them inside. Straight through my living room, through the dining room, and into what used to be a garage but is now a laundry and storage room. My husband did not say one word. I realize there will be a huge mess, but I would rather clean up after them inside than be outside all day thinking I should bring them in. They were fine until we got to the single digits, below zero, and -20F windchill.

I would have done the same thing!

Lol...my husband would have known better as well, for if he dared say anything, he would be the one sleeping out there. 14F here now... too cold for me ...spring, please hurry!!!

LOL I remember when we just called these “polar vortexes” blizzards.... Sleeping soundly up here in Northern Michigan, above the 45th parallel. -22 degrees yesterday. All is well.
It's kind of like a heat wave is now Global warming.
