I'll start this off by telling everyone that I had my friend move in about a month ago , she brought her horse here and I noticed a few hours later it had a tick on it . I thought it had probably come from the previous property she kept it on , so I didn't think too much about it .

2 weeks later hubby comes in and tells me to get the thing that's crawling on his neck off of him . I tell him it's a tick and he freaks out trying to throw it off while I'm cussing at him to stop so I can get it off ! Acouple days later we find one on the dog and one on his horse .

We've NEVER had ticks on our property !! I always wear a baseball cap , so I usually don't worry too much when we're camping or fishing . My FIL is up here now and he tells me they never had ticks up here .

I'm telling this story because I was just about to shut the computer down and felt something crawling on my head....IT WAS A TICK !!! Now I'm freaked out and can't even imagine going to bed . I'm a sissy by no means...but the thought of having an insect burrowing into my scalp freaks me out !! Sorry , just had to vent .

Oh that would freak me out big time. Time to get some spray or something. Do you let your chickens free range? Mine seem to love eating all the bugs in the yard. I also spray as well, the yard, foundation and treat my dogs with flea and tick topical...can you tell I dont like bugs!

I think that you need to get some of the flea/tick meds for all your pets!!! Maybe some of the liquid kind that you put on their necks.
That will solve the problem for your pets and livestock.

I am not sure what to do about you!!! LOL Seriously, I would totally freak out if I had a tick on me!!

Kalispell is one of my favorite towns in the world. Do you live in town? If not, North, South, East or West??

Good Luck!!

Cindy

LOL I am sorry. Kalispell has ticks for sure, when you have woods, mountains and forests you have ticks...this year is gonna be bad. They are out already.

I don't let them free range , too many hawks ...bald eagles ..skunks..coyotes ...etc . 40 chickens vs 36 acres wouldn't kill the little %$#@! anyway ! We're used to dealing with them when camping....just not when we're weeding the garden or mowing where there's no trees around ! Don't like spraying bug spray on me unless I'm going fishing ! Here I was freaking out about the spiders that keep biting me every night , now I get to worry about these little buggers ! Will I ever get any sleep ?! Trying to stop combing through my hair !!

Found a tick crawling the on the back of my neck earlier this evening. Guinea keets hatched out yesterday. Can't wait for them to grow up and be out free ranging in my yard. Two years ago I saw the first tick I'd ever seen before. It was on my cat. Since then I find about 3 to 4 a week on the cat. Today was the first time I've had one on me. It seems like the ticks just moved in and took over in my area. These are deer ticks, the type that carry Lyme Disease. The deer are worse than rats around here. Can't grow anything without the deer destroying it. Last year I had a deer chase my cat down the walk and right up to my kitchen door. Scared the cat half to death. I had to go out and yell at the deer to back off. We need more hunters (houses too close together here) or I need to fence my yard and get a big dog to chase the deer out. Meanwhile, the keets better get growing. They got some serious tick eating to do.
