I Hate Wild Dogs!

Well I have a standard poodle pup, yorkie, and a chihuahua. So they are no match for such large dogs! Not to mention my 7 yr old son. I don't live in city limits, so I'm checking on the local ordinances out here.

Great minds think alike! On my way home I got a paintball gun! I figured a few shots with that and they will think twice about trying to dig under my fence! I thought one or two nights missing sleep is ok compared to numerous nights.

I work with dogs, and know that mastiffs are usually pretty docile, so I was amazed when these charged the fence.

According to my neighbors I am able to shoot them if they are endangering my family or property. If the paintball gun don't woek then i'll move onto bigger and more productive things!

It's just a fact of life that dogs will behave differently when they "pack up". So, even a docile dog alone will do things you'd never expect if in a pack.

Agree about the "pack." These are nothing to mess with and should be dealt with as soon as possible. True of any pack of dogs, those that are fine by themselves can change horribly once running in a group.

A paintball gun wont disuade an agressive mastiff from coming at you...

yes, they are usually docile..but if they are agressive..(which these have proven to be....then you are in for trouble....they need to be taken care of. )
My mastiff was raised by us from a very young age... and he went to puppy school and everything....and he is the BEST dog ever. So sweet and docile and submissive to US... i swear, all i have to do sometimes is look at him and he knows what i want from him... they are very, very in tune to their people...
but i failed to socialize him properly with strange people..(all MY fault..) and so sometimes i worry how he reacts to strangers..(its SO in their blood to protect their family..)... anyone would be sorry to break into my house, i think. Its something i'm keeping a very close eye on because hes my first mastiff i've ever owned. So, i'm still learning about them. All i can tell you is..dont underestimate those dogs....

Personally with a small child involved I would not wait for the dogs to ramp-up their aggression. Even a big dog can scale a high fence in a short amount of time.

Got a rifle or shotgun? Wild dogs of any sort are nothing to mess with, they don't have the fear of man that coyotes do, which makes them dangerous.

If I had your problem, and needed a good all purpose rifle that could handle wild dogs and coyotes, I'd pick up a .223 bolt action. Savage and Stevens (same company really) make a couple very nice models that shoot very well, and are affordable. .223 has very mild recoil, is cheaper to shoot than more high powered rifles, and if you get good with it you can make a shot all the way out to 400 yards.

If the problem dogs are within 50 yards, get a shotgun. If they are further out than that, get yourself a rifle. Wild dogs will happily kill a human adult or child if they are hungry and belligerent.
