I have 1 chicken with good shell, the other with thin shell. They are the same breed, they have the same diet.. they are 5 1/2 month old pullets.
 
Some chickens need more calcium than other chickens. If you have oyster shell available, or if you give them eggshells after you eat the eggs, then the one that needs extra calcium can get it.

And some chickens just do lay eggs with thicker or thinner shells, no matter what they eat.
