3 of them are a really beautiful mohagany color with black throughout, the last one is black with golden flecks almost the exact opposite of the other 3 does that have a bearing on the gender? Thanks Sandy

How old are your pullets and where did you get them? Different lines have different color development especially hatchery stock. I have 13 Barnevelders from two different lines (not hatchery stock). The pullets and cockerels all are colored the same at 4 weeks. Just differences in body size/shape, feather out rate, and comb development. Here is a pic of one of my favorite pullets from the Kelly Cratty line. She is about 4 weeks old.

I have 2 barnevelder pullets (probably hatchery stock) - one has the more typical dark, laced look, while the other has a red chest and more red feathers throughout. I also wondered if the color difference meant that one of them was a roo, but they both ended up being pullets.

I have photos on my BYC page of them both at 8, 11, 18, 23, & 25 weeks of age:

Hi, my barnevelders are almost 8 weeks old and they all came from Ideal hatchery, your little girl there is beautiful and looks very much like my little black girl except she has more black on her face and head right now, but the body color is exactly the same,All of them are about the same size and there combs are all about the same size with not pink or red in them yet.So I guess the feathering color has nothing to do with the sex? The were sent as pullets and hoping they stay that way! LOL Thanks Sandy
