i know this is a little too original and EVERYONE is probably dealing with the same thing, but i've been losing 3-5 eggs a day now! i sell eggs, and keep a bunch for eating so it's kind of important to get as many as possible!

I was having the same problems with my goldfish. Snakes were eating them and someone told me about the bird netting you can get at Lowe's. It comes in a roll and you put it over fruit trees to keep the birds off the fruits. I think it's also called deer netting. Anyway the snakes try to crawl through it and get trapped in it unless they are really really small snakes. Then you can do something with the snakes. I read some where folks were putting this around their chicken pens to trap the snakes as well. So I plan on putting some around my pen when I get to that point. Am working on it now trying to get it fixed for some baby chicks. I know the netting is working for my goldfish pond because I have trapped many snakes in it.

I build all my coops with half inch hardware cloth so I don't have many problems with snakes. But I do have one coop that snakes can get in. I have fake ceramic eggs in it & have caught a few rat snakes that have eaten the fake eggs. I've always caught the snakes in the coop early morning & disposed of them. Snakes are fine with me until they become a pest.
If your having a snake problem I would think you would find the culprit in your coop eating the eggs.

...sorry about that... i didn't finish the post..

I dont have a problem with snakes...but I know a guy that did... he takes 3/4" pvc pipe and drills 1/8" holes about every 4 to 6 inches in it...then puts in the moth balls and caps the end without glueing them so he can re-add the moth balls... he then lays the pipe on the ground around the areas that snakes come in..... the pipe keeps birds and animals from eating the moth balls.....like i said I havn't tried this...but he says it works great...
