This is the funniest thing to me. We have silkies and I gave their eggs to a man to incubate with the agreement than I got 1/4 of the hatched chicks with a minimum of 2 (as long as 4 hatched). We also had some seabright chicks that were older (around 2 months) and he wanted them so we traded out extra chicks that hatched for these chicks minus one known female that I was keeping. She was to young to go in with the adults so I left her with the 5 day old silkie chicks and at first they were unsure of each other but now she thinks she is their Mamma.
When I go out there they will run to her, she will stand up to our half wolf dog even! I was cleaning butts today and I had one chick I was holding and she came right over and attempted hissing at me! She used to be skittish (and sebrights are flying chickens!).
