I have a bone to pick with all you incubating ppl...

I believe that. Especially since we have one to gift them to so it would be either spend resources to get them to culling age or ...
We found a gentleman about 10 miles up the road that processes chickens for $2.50 each. Brought him a couple cockerels I hatched who were 12 weeks old a few weeks ago, and they were ready the next day. Very delicious on the grill tonight!

With the supply chain looking as it is, I don’t mind feeding them til 12-16 weeks to get a healthy dinner. To me, $2.50 is worth not having to do them all myself, especially without a plucker. (I did have to put an injured chicken down, so it isn’t lack of ability to cull…just the time spent on it.) Eventually I will learn…

ETA: We don’t name the boys…unless we know we are keeping them…

Thankfully, he has NO problem culling . . . anything. He kills me in the fall leaving out of here in pitch black "I'm going to get some Bambi, honey". And I usually say "Run, Bambi, run!"

I used to yell, “Run, Bambi, Run” until the darn deer at a field of extra starts I planted on our family’s land. Now I hope DH & his cousin get a couple every year! We were gonna sell the extra produce. Luckily the garden at my house is fenced and protected by two vicious (extremely sweet) dogs. As long as the wildlife think they are vicious…hah!

All my silkies hatched (6 all together) and I'm pretty sure they are in my top 3 of cutest breeds as babies😍 only lost one due to not pipping and suffocating which sucked but yep I'm officially an Incubator-holic bc I'm already wondering what I can hatch next! Just waiting on my one serama to finishing hatching 🤣🤣 excuse my beat up hands...working for UPS really does a number on them lol

What a beautiful post to wake up to this morning when I SHOULD be showering and readying for work in 80 minutes. (Thank goodness the job is 8 minutes away as the crow flies).
