Ok so I think I have a broody.. She's my black LF cochin she's been on a nest all day and hasn't moved from it as far as I can tell-and I went to check under her for an egg -nothing-nothing but growling and puffing up! SO here's my dilema...I have eggs in bator 7 days old...call duck eggs..turkey eggs..chicken eggs...silkie eggs... if she is still there tomorrow when I get home can I take out of the bator the call duck eggs and turkey eggs and put them under her? I think I have 4-5 call duck eggs left and 6 turkey eggs---too many? I HATE hand turning and forget half the time!!!! what would you do???

You can do it, but don't make the same mistake I did. I put some 1/2 done duck eggs under my broody Austarlorp (been waiting for one forever and now I have 5!) since I just went back to work and hand turning suddenly became a problem. However, in my haste to try to make everything "work" I neglected to close off her space. When I came home the other night she was sitting on a different nest and the duck eggs were cold. I put her back on the duck eggs and fixed it so she can move around, but doesn't have access to the other nests. I'm not sure if all the ducklings/eggs died or not, I'll candle this weekend and try to figure it out.

Anyhow, the eggs in your bator aren't so far along as to freak her out with too early of a hatch so I think you're fine there. I'd get her settled where you want her and if she stays put there for another day you can stick the eggs under her.

Happy hatching!

ETA: My BA is sitting on 11 Rouen duck eggs and doesn't seem to have any problem keeping them all covered. I'm not sure how big call duck and turkey eggs are.

Absolutely Nat! Put her where you want her and make sure she stays for 12 hours or so, then add eggs! I did this with my LF Cochin and she hatched BLRW for me! It was great to see them together!

Yah -Ill wait until I get done work tomorrow another 24 hours and if she stays put Ill move her to a dog house I have that I can lock her into -that way she doesnt get bothered and she has room to walk and poo---The eggs would be 7-10 days old to put under her. yah I hope she is...That would relieve alot of stress for me! I was praying to have a broody before all my eggs came:-( Ill take her now anyway! thanks~

wait a few days to make sure she is really broody- sometimes they just THINK thier broody and stay on the nest for only a few days. if your 100% sure she is, then go ahead! i kinda want pictures of a chicken with DUCKLINGS and TURKEYS following after her, though!!!

yah!!! that hen is fat too--So I could put the 7 turkey eggs under her ( 5 white palms and 2 bourbeon reds) and 5 call duck eggs--12 eggs not too bad huh??? yes...Cant wait!!!!! Thanks:-) ooh BLRW eggsss.. I just got chicks from Foley's in the mail yesterday! I just got done cutting pasty butts tonight!!

she truly broody! came home from work and she's still in the same spot! so I stuck two tester mixed turkey eggs under her and Im pulling eggs out of bator and sticking them under her too! I stink at hand turning!

That's great! The duck eggs under my BA are peeping so I guess I'll get at least a few even though she was off them long enough for them to get cold.

Broody hens rock!!
