I am new at chickens, got the hen house and run built, went and got two 2 month old silkies.
All was fine untill my hubby wanted a egg layer and didnt want to wait. He got a Barred Rock
6 months old. Well she picked on them so bad they would huddle in a corner and hide from her.
I have put them in a small dog kennel inside the coop and am keeping them seperate to prevent
any harm to the silkies. Question is how long should i need to keep them apart? they will never
be her size, but will they eventually be able to stand up to her?. I let them out by themselves to
roam a little every day but only if she is put up. Poor lil guys or gals.

Consider getting a pair of "pinless peepers" for the offending hen. If she wasn't introduced over several weeks but instead just immediately placed with your existing flock, that is most likely why you have problems. New birds should be placed separate from the flock in case they have lice, mites, cocci, etc. The peepers allow the chicken to see enough to eat and drink, but may cause enough of a challenge to her so she'll leave the others alone.
