I’m a chicken mom… But my neighbor found a lone gosling wandering, handed it over to me. We live near a small river. Nobody has seen any gosling‘s lately let alone barely any goose pairs hanging out here the last week or so. Have no idea where this little fella came from. Currently in my bathtub with a heat lamp. Have no idea how old, obviously very young with no feathers. Can I rehab until it grows feathers? Maybe I should find somebody who raises these. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated thank you. Also, what do I feed it? I don’t think it’s old enough to eat grass.

It's adorable! Do you have any feed stores near you? They could probably point you toward the right things to get for it.

I would get it some purina flock raiser or some other sort of flock raiser for waterfowl.
I’d say it’s old enough to eat grass but wild waterfowl babies also feed on algae which where they get their extra protein and b vitamins, hence why in captivity they need supplemented diets.

You should probably contact a wildlife rehabber though, the law isn’t very understanding of well meaning peeps trying to help out wildlife.

Good news. There is a local wildlife rescue that specializes in birds. And they have a couple of foster geese, ones who can’t fly. But are otherwise wild. And they received a same aged gosling a couple hours before. So little dude/dudette has a friend and will have foster parents and at the end of summer they have a place that they will release them.

Not gonna lie, the animal lover in me got super attached very quick. But I knew the right thing to do. We named him Donut (long story) . And every time I see a goose in the future I will think that is our little Donut.
