I have a dilemma...opinions plz!

Its tough..... I'd sell him the eggs.

Its the same when you give a pet to someone, you never really know how the animal will be treated, at least with this guy - you'll know what happens, its probably better than shipping eggs to someone you don't know and them keeping the chickens confined in tiny little rusty cages for years!

A lot of good points made, and opinions to consider. I think I will sell the eggs...you are right when you ask what the difference is between eating the fertilized eggs or eating the chickens. I do not think he treats his animals badly-he is well-known and I have seen his farm. I know they are raised primarily for food, but I can't help the way I think of them-they are some of the coolest pets I have ever had. I'm sure a lot of you can relate.....

I would make the sale. Did you ask him what he would do with all those chicks? I mean, I understand he will be processing them...but, what if he uses the meat for a food pantry? Helping to feed more unfortunate folks...who would otherwise go hungry. Dont fret....im sure they will be raised well....especially if he is wanting to process. THey will have great lives I am sure. Make the sale...and just think of it as filling some poor childs empty tummy.

Wait a minute, did I get this right? he's going to give you back 3 chicks for every dozen that hatch, and that's how he's gonna pay you? I think I would be charging him dollars. You've obviously got a lot of work into your chickens, and a broody could hatch more for you, so this doesn't sound like a good deal. If he is actually paying $$$ for eggs, well then that's okay. JMHO

Actually, getting the 3 chicks for every dozen that hatched was my idea, not his. He is willing to pay....we were going to order more chicks this year because I have very few hens that will go broody long enough to hatch...and I dont have an incubator (but I plan to soon). I just figured it would be a good way to get some more of my chicken's offspring (which turn out quite beautiful), and at the same time, help him out. Does it sound like an even trade?
