Welcome to BYC. I've made friends with a few ground doves. While they will sit on my hand, they are legally wild birds. I don't try to confine them.

I've had them visit my deck often in TN. I have not seen any yet here to befriend. This one was a regular along with a few others. I think they are known as Morning Doves and the smaller ones Turtle Doves.

@janiedoe , those are Inca doves and yes, they are illegal to possess without the proper permit.

And @LTAY1946 , that is a mourning dove, not the same as a Turtle dove....and Turtle doves are not Inca doves! Mourning doves are also illegal to possess without a permit.

Turtle doves

The doves took over my deck. The one in the photo I named her Jezebel as she was ever so mean to the other birds that came in to visit. If I had left the door open they might have come inside looking for a handout.
