This afternoon I helped a very weak chick out of its shell at day 23. It started pipping yesterday afternoon and was getting nowhere fast. It had pipped on the side of the egg . It has now hatched but is very weak . What can I give to strengthen him/her?

The hatching of a chick is usually a long process. It can take up to 48 hours for the chick to fully come out of the shell. If the chick seems very weak and does not seem to be gaining any strength, I would give it some electrolytes. Sav-A-Flock works great and you can mix 1/10th of the packet with a tablespoon of Gatorade for the chick.

I had a very tiny Black Bantam hatch yesterday afternoon that was very weak, I gave it a drop of Nutri-Drench and in a couple of hours it was hoping around. Hatching is tough on these little guys, Nutrition-Drench gives them the boost they need.

Thanks for that advice I have ordered some online. I have a duckling and another serama silkie chick(the same as the weak one) to go in the next two days to keep the little one company as the other chicks are way bigger. 2 silkies2 weeks old and a peachick 3weeks old
