It's a soap opera back there, let me tell you.
Muscovy mommies are taking turns sitting on various nests, and there are babies hatching. Today though just flummoxed me.
The goose took her little ducklings to get some water, but they crossed through the fence to the muscovy pen and started following the little ducklings that are over there. The muscovy mom's didn't care or think anything of it, but the goose went nuts. In walks the gander and boy is he talking, but none of the ducklings come back. Finally one duckling starts heading back and then ALL the ducklings head over there leaving none for the muscovy moms. Muscovy moms make some noises and all the ducklings head back over there. Goose decides she's had enough of all this and walks around into the muscovy pen and into their enclosure, does a bunch of talking, and sits on some eggs over there and makes room for any ducklings that want to come. Muscovy moms sit on nests and make room for ducklings too.
Gander doesn't know what to do so he goes back outside since everyone seems happy. His job seems to be to keep muscovy daddy away during the day.
You'd think that would be the end, but it's not. I walk back out there a few hours later and what do I see? Two canadian geese in the muscovy enclosure sitting down! what...
An hour later the canadians are in the pasture with muscovy daddy and a young muscovy hen, goose is back on her nest with a couple of ducklings, muscovy mommies are sitting on nests, and gander is swimming in the pond.
Is this just another day on the farm?
