hi I have a flock of 12 11pullets 1 rooster I know that layer can hurt the roo

9 of my pullets are laying they are about 5 to 6 months old

can I just feed grower with oyster shell or all flock gower finsher that's all I can find at my ts

thanks to all help

There is potential harm i feeding layer to non laying(due to age, sex, etc) fowl....feeding an all flock, grower, etc and offering calcium separately is s simple solution used by many folks. I aim for 18-20% protein for base feed, which is another advantage of this approach over most commercially packaged layer feeds that land at or below 16%

As far as I know layer is perfectly fine on boys.
False. Layer feed is for actively laying birds ONLY. The high levels of calcium will build up in the kidneys and can eventually lead to the rooster's death.

Grower or starter is just fine to feed for everyone. Read the labels carefully. Some brands or grower or finisher are very low protein and don't have enough to properly support egg production. I feed Flock Raiser to all my poultry for their entire lifetime. Crushed oyster shell offered separately serves as a source of calcium for those that need it.
