Recently I've been using my phone a lot, and using BYC messages even more. Let me tell you, an active PM thread on a narrow screen takes a lot of scrolling and loads pretty slowly.
So my suggestion is to add pages to PM threads. Display 10-20 posts per page, and automatically jump to the first unread post when you click on the thread. Basically like the rest of the forum, only not as noisy because there's fewer people talking.

I like the current setup a lot (so much storage! Group conversations!), but I love little, useful changes.
