We started with 3 chickens. Then 3. Then five. Then seven. Then nine. Then ten. We lost our tenth, so we got two to replace it. We were up to 11 chicks. Today we went to the CO-OP for two ducklings, and came home with four orecious darlings. The last of six. All thirty ducklings sold within 2 hours of their arrival. So now our fowl/poultry total is up to 16.

Yep thats how it happens, I got 6 chicks for easter last year, then 2 weeks later got 6 more, then by Oct I found this site. Now I have about 35 outside and about 80 eggs in the bator, along with 7 Turkeys. Its a true illness I tell you.

While I'm at it, is it okay to keep my ducks in a cardboard box? They have a heat lamp and a blanket on one side. I'm not sure I need shavings. The top is open, and the box is really roomy. We got a whole patio set in it.

I am laughing while I read this because I traded a drake yesterday for 3 new hens AND they already laid me an egg today, OMG, I am SO eggcited!!

Anyway, I started with 5 khaki ducklings, adopted a pekin and a mallard from a college kid (who was trying to hide them in his apartment), and now added 3 hens, minus the one drake equals 9. We all must be duckaholics!

Started with nine ducks and a goose (should have gotten more geese I tell you!), one mallard blew off in a storm, got three silver appleyard ducks, goose died (poor girl...

), got six chickens (roosters! gah!) and a mallard duckling. Got rid of two mallards (not the duckling), got rid of my cayugas (miss them now) and a black indian runner, got six MORE chickens... Then got eight more chickens.

We have twenty chickens alone.

Not pretty. :hmm;

It's a serious disease, one which you can never hide from! YOU CAN RUN, BUT YOU CAN NEVER HIDE!!!@$#

But I'd never have it any other way, either.

EDIT:
Oops! Forgot to mention that now I'm going to get an incubator, and try out all manner of hatching eggs...
Sigh.

Turkey, muscovy, call ducks, regular ducks, geese...

The cycle goes on and on.

Hello. My name is Todd, and I'm a duckaholic.

I've wanted ducks for a long time. And, I finally talked my wife into it. But she said, "Only two." I bought six from TSC (because of there minimum rule) with the intention of only keeping two. So, I sold four and kept a mallard and a black swede. Then kicked myself for not keeping one of the pekins. Wife said, "Go ahead and get one."

Cuz she fell in love with the ducks too

So, then I looked through craigslist and found a lady selling pekins. Contacted her to set up a time to pick one up. Then I noticed that she had rouens for sale too.

I had wanted one of those originally also. Well, I had a lot of trouble getting in contact with the seller.

Come to find out she had caught the flu from one of her grandkids. So, we finally set up a time to meet. Well, she shows up with two pekins and two rouens. She wanted me to have them cuz she felt bad about all the missed communications. She only charged me for two.

Now I'm back to SIX DUCKS!
