I have an oppurtunity to adopt a Zebra...

Even if a zebra is to be just a lawn ornament they would still need routine feet trimming and vet work. Trimming zebras can be VERY dangerous. My shoeing school instructor would trim for a zoo and all the zebras had to be sedated and blind folded. When you put a zebra under pressure, they have way more of the tendancy to "fight" than a horse does. JMHO. They had to adapt to so many different types of predators that they have a more wild nature than horses. Lion's, hyenas, wild dogs, leopards crocidiles etc... That said I'm sure there are good ones but I am always leary of them. They just have not been domesticated very long.

I would try to find out how many generations out it is from his wild kin, this can make a huge diffrence in it's trainabilty/safety.

Unless you are a very skilled horse or animal trainer I would never consider a Zebra, especially with kids. They are at best a generation or two domesticated and have a fight instinct that is pretty unpredictable.

I wouldnt touch it with the proverbial ten foot pole, and I have been around horses my whole life.

if he not gelded he could be, they are wild animals and I can't think of any way I would call one kid safe.

I know a Zebra would be over my head. I would look around {online or around you} to find Zebra owners and talk to them.

After much research and all the wonderful advise from you all .. We will not be getting the Zebra... I was under the impression originally that they where fairly similar to horses.. I will not take a chance with my children lives just to have a COOL pet....... If the gentleman contacts me again .. I will kindly decline ... BUt I will take the Mini LOps he was rehoming
