My daughter ( I think she's a member here) introduced me to this site when both of us started raising chickens at our houses last spring. I have been lurking and finally decided to join to reap the full benefits. My decision was made easy because every time I googled for info on my chickens, It seemed Google always led me here for the answers.
Last year we'd talked about 'someday' having chickens after observing a few people we knew who did. Then my husband got a call from one of those friends asking us to rescue one of his roosters... That is how it began. Reggie the Rooster was soon joined by a bantam hen (Regina).. It turned out she was past laying stage. Water and Melon (named by my grandson) were two Amber Sex Links we aquired by splitting an order with Patti. Snowball Patti's hen stayed here until her coop was finished and she gave us our first fresh egg. After Snowball moved to Patti's coop, we aquired a few more hens, mostly Easter eggers.
We currently have from our original crew 2 Amber sex links, 4 Easter eggers and an orpington... This week Patti's 2nd rooster Spartacus had to come stay in my coop as he was being beaten up by her other rooster Sgt. Pepper. So hoping he fertilizes some of my girls.. In anticipation I bought the incubator and egg turner at Tractor Supplies chicken sale this week. We also added 5 baby chicks and 2 pulletts in a brooder in the house. (one black sex link, two silver laced wyandotts, and I"m going to have to go back and look up in my facebook posts what the other breeds are.. whoops).
So that's my story of how I got addicted to chickens...
Laurie - Mom of 4 adult children and B/G tweenage twins. Gramma to Grace Jr's 3 children.
Harmony~ Henhouse population... 7 hens, 1 roo, 7 chicks, and hopefully soon more in the incubator.
Non Chicken animal residents: Sheru (dog), Rascal (cat), and Sparrow(cat) Fluffy (rabbit). Zuess the red ear slider turtle and a couple of fish
