I have Buttons...

Quite the weird week I've had! But now I have 2 adult buttons- 1 hen, 1 roo, and a clutch of eggs to boot. I'll need a bigger home for them ASAP.

I'll get a bird waterer tomorrow, and food. I'm still in shock!

I was planning to wait to get them, maybe hatch my own. Then late last night on Craigslist someone posted an ad for these two. No mention of the eggs. Free, no cage or supplies. I emailed this morning to see if they were still available and they were. That was around 9-10am. Had a busy day- and was debating calling and getting them or not, as she requested I call first. I'm phone phobic, though.

Well, after all the crazy crud and bad news, I finally called around 6:30pm and she still had them. So... off I went. Boy was I shocked when she showed me the next box with the eggs in it!! Not what I expected one bit!

They've got a shallow water bowl with marbles in it for now, and I ground up some shelless birdseed I had for the feeder outside to tide them over.

I think the last straw was finding out from my Dr that my lab tests showed more then we'd expected- my thyroid is apparently out of wack. That plus the accident two days ago - it just seemed providence.

I hope the week does not continue on this crazy course. I've already been flung the wrong way across three lanes of a heavy-use highway- if something bigger happens, I may not live to tell about it!

I'm working on a light stroke, or at best, kidney damage, but my birds are fine.

Damn the rest- I'll get some enjoyment out of watching these two little ones, and maybe relax a bit. For once!

I hate all these health issues. Why do they sneak up on us like this! *waves fist*

There we go. Got them grit, oyster shell, millet, shavings, a waterer- I'll be picking up the food shortly.

They also got some crickets. The roo didn't seem to even care or realize they were there- the hen went after them like they were candy They also both went after the grit and oyster shell like there was no tomorrow- and are mostly ignoring the millet. LOL

I think I may have to toss the eggs, as the hen is pretty much ignoring them and has been all day. They ARE fertile though! I checked the two that were cracked/pecked, and they've got bullseyes. The hen has been more interested in the oyster shell then anything but the crickets so far since I gave it to them- I take it they needed some extras, there. What can I use for "nesting" stuff? I have hay and crinkled shredded paper, and I got shavings to lay down next time I clean out their cage.

Looks like they're both wild-type, which is a-ok with me

Well, you didn't say you had crickets, grit, etc.

Sounds like great emergency food to me.
Not a standard diet, but good stop gap.

I didn't have them- I went out and got them bright and early in the morning. I got them after all the pet stores were closed that first night, so the next day I went and got grit, oyster shell, a waterer, shavings, etc.

I mixed some cat food into the sunflower/peanut/etc bird food, and will get them their real food today. Yesterday was so insane with plans changing, I couldn't get to the feed store. We HAVE to go there today.

They are both more active, and less spooky when we move around now, and my needs-to-be-topped off fish tank is noisier then they've been!
