1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) Standard Black Sumatras chicks ordered from Ideal Poultry that were overnighted to me and received Thursday AM. Every was sparkling and running around fine. Friday AM we discovered a casualty next to the chick waterer so I assumed a drowning so put in polished stone pebbles in the waterer. Also Friday during the day noticed there was one apparently Failing to thrive it progressively got worse until it went down lower and lower on its legs and would not eat or take water. Was not producing stool, vent checks are all coming up clean. This morning around noon I have another chick with the wobbles and suspect the same will happen, currently it is taking water just fine, but everyone looks like roadrunners compared to it now. The MHP temp is fine with 90 degree temps. Last years batch of chicks had 100% survival rates. Legs are structurally normal. I'm thinking environmental or congenital etiology.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? Second case of the wobbles.
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.None.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. I'm starting to suspect they just don't have awesome genetics. Or GI issues.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. Full-O=Pep Pullet Starter-Grower(medicated with ampromium) designed for freshly hatched to 5 weeks, drinking water.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. Absent vents are clean.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? Monitor and heat at 90 degrees. Offer water if the chicks arent drinking them selves.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? Not taking these to a vet.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. N/A
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use- Moved to an indoor bathtub with MHP still set to 90 degrees, bedding is fresh coastal hay with newspaper under it. Additionally, outside of the hatchery they have never been exposed to other chicken.
