I have created tiny little monsters...

I couldn't get mine to eat a banana, I guess it was the texture? Grapes are expensive, but if I find them on sale/over ripe I'll get some....I buy little bags of apples, they're cheap and the birds love them....

Mine love pecking out of a cantaloupe rind. Another favorite is carrot peelings. I just hope I'm not spoiling them so they won't eat bugs.

Our girls are just as rotten! My hubby gets all the salad bar leftovers from work. They see him pull up in the car and the start rubber necking. As soon as they see a bag they all come a running! In the winter we make them warm oatmeal in the mornimgs. Summer they get frozen yogurt, butter tubs frozen with fruits and such in them, and ice cold melons. It's so easy to make em rotten!! Lol:D

My seven sweet chickens are hilarious! If I am outdoors and go inside, they all run to the back door, peer in, and begin pecking the glass. They expect treats!! -love sliced grapes and yogurt!! Anything that comes out of the house they assume is for them.

hi! i'm really new to chicks and have been doing a TON of research :) but mine turn a month old on friday/ saturday... basically as long as i offer grit i can give them all kinds of random treats? is there anything to watch out for? because hearing all of the different things you all give your chicks makes me want to try giving them something fun :) they havent gotten anything yet...

Chickens are a lot like us - omnivores. They eat all the major food groups (nom, nom, nom!)

I don't give mine things that have a lot of salt (chips, crackers), that's my biggest no-no. Other than that, they get all kinds of kitchen scraps and stuff.

Try giving them a little dish of yogurt or small curd cottage cheese with plain quaker oats mixed in it.... ;) I core and halve apples for mine all they leave is the leather skin!

Beware - they will start expecting treats!

- I love the stories, fun stuff

Mine are about two weeks old and I make a special treat for them. I take the end pieces of bread, left over food (random things) a bit of oats, cooked rice, and tuna. Add warm water and let it set a few minutes then mix and I give them some. They love it! Occasionally I'll mix in a bit of yogurt as well, veggies, or fruit.
I also take them daily outside where they get this treat. They also get grit from the dirt.
have fun treating them. The only thing I watch for is seeds/pits of fruit, things with a ton of salt, and giving them to many treats. If you give them to many treats they quit eating their food and just eat the treats.
