I have eggs!!!!! Im sooooo excited!!!

Hey All!!!
I found 3 eggs....two in one nesting box and 1 in the other!!!!! I am sooo excited!!! I got my Black Australorp the week of Thanksgiving 2011. They are 23 weeks old this week. I have 11 of them but Im not sure who did the laying whether it was 1 or 3. It has also been one week since I checked for eggs because I gave them all a good talking to last week because they had not given me any eggs yet...LOL It must have worked!!! I am feeding them Purina Layena with Omega 3 along with Oyster shell calcium at will in a bowl. I throw grass in the pen after its been cut and they love that. We cut down the deer food plot which had wheat, peas, clovers, and something else my brother planting. so I threw a whole garbage bag full into their pen and they loved it.

I am just sooooo excited!!!!!!!!

Congratulations of your eggs! I'm ready for my hens to start laying! I'm just so impatient lol. My chicks are about 12 weeks old and I'm really ready for eggs lol. If you let some hatch post pics!

Thank you guys so much but guess what???? i went back out just now and pulled some chickory that once again my brother had planted for his deer plots to feed some to the chickens....I checked and I had 4 more eggs!!!!!

I did notice that one was pecked open which did not make me happy because now I have an egg eater somewhere in the bunch. (

I have about 3- 10 week old roosters mixed in with my hens and I am thinking that one of them did it.

I wont be able to hatch any of them because they are not fertilized....I have 3 baby roosters only in the coop...the baby roosters are surviving but I know they are too young to do the deed.

Sooooo 7 total eggs...and 1 eaten...I'm excited...I kinda wish I knew who was doing the egglaying so I can give them a special treat. They are soooo sweet my Black Australorp hens.....and they LOVE anything green. I have a head of cabbage in there now and try to keep something green in there as they love it!!!

What kind do you have and how old are yours? they will lay when you stop thinking about it....I was shocked!!

okay now I have a problem!!! I finally get eggs and now I have egg eaters!!! One BYC person suggested I put fake easter eggs in the coop and when they peck it they get nothing...any other suggestion....I really want my eggs for my family and I....Ive waited soooo long to get eggs..... Any advice is appreciated!! Thanks!

If you can pick up your eggs right away they won't be able to eat them. There are nest boxes that have slanted floors so the eggs roll away and the chooks cannot get to them.....

And fake eggs that are too hard to peck may help break the habit. Good luck!
