I have failed

Ive heard yall talk about hearing "pipping", is this a noise they make before they break the egg to come out? My incubator has been about 100 to 101, i thought maybe that was too high, but it is still air so i guess that would be right? It is day 21 for me and no sounds or breaking......

Still air should be at 101.5-102 degrees. So, I would give them a few more days. Lower temps will slow them down a bit.

Thanks Cammy!

Good morning, I read the last few posts and immediately went to the booklet that came with my Little Giant Still Air Incubator. It definitely says 99.5 degrees. So,,,,,, it is day 24 ==== one chick broke thru last night. This morning, I believe we are hearing more pips/chirps. I initially thought it was from the chick already hatched but I do see one other egg with what appears to be a tiny hole and the start of another hatch !!!

I am so excited and having a hard time breaking myself aware from the windows of the incubator.

Thank you. There are now 2 beautiful little chicks moving around in my incubator. It is so incredibly exciting. I had to force myself to go change out of my pj's AND to go feed the chickens outside in the coop. I think they could tell I was trying to rush through things because I wanted to come back in and stare in the windows of the incubator some more...

Congratulations! I am sure glad that one of those chicks wasn't the egg you cracked open! Keep us updated on how many hatch. What kind of chickens are they?

I know your incubator instructions say 99.5 That is what the temperature of the egg should be when incubated.

However with a still air you need to have it like Cammy said at 101.5 to 102. Because your incubator does not have a fan, the temperature in there changes and that is why you need the temps higher.

Your hatch took 24 days and that is also an indication to raise the temp if you can.
It should take about 21 days.

Well, you have some chicks and you should be officially "hooked" now!

It is very good that you are going to get a hygrometer. And yes the thermometers vary alot. I always use a couple and compare.

Peeping is a noise. Pipping is when they make the first hole in the egg shell. You may or may not hear them peep. I usually have quiet hatches and hear nothing until one manages to hatch. Then they tend to scream their heads off cause they are lonely and confused where they are.
