One hen in particular is now taking to sitting for long hours in the nesting box. Every time I go out there to the hen house she is sitting on eggs. I know it is spring and she may be thinking that it is time to bring some chicks into the world and well, I am concerned? Should I get her a good shrink to discuss denial or is she going to be ok? Any suggestions?

Hi and Welcome to BYC!

Sounds like someone is going broody for you (actually herself!). Do you have a rooster to give her fertile eggs? If you don't want her going broody, you need to break her broodiness.

They can get so deep into being broody that they come close to starving and getting sick, because they refuse to leave the nest. (Not from experience, just what I've read.)

We have 3 Silky hens that spend more time trying to hatch air from being broody so much, than actually laying eggs.
