My family made a coop for our chickens, but how do I keep to wood from rotting?

I just made a coop as well. I used plywood and untreated lumber because it is inside an old carport - no weather will touch it. However the outside of the carport I did redo and used plywood for that as well. I put on two coats of sealant (Seal-Krete) and then 2 coats of good outdoor paint. That should protect it fairly well for awhile before needing re-coated. If you used plywood, be sure to coat the edges really well as that where rot will start.

My Dad put treated lumber around the base of my coops so they don't rot. Can put a pic if you would like.
