I have never had...... Update with pics..

I have never had an Ameracuana or EE with yellow legs. I was thrown way off when I got my chicks last month because she has yellow legs and face tufts. I know that can happen but I have never had one.

Her name is Lilly however she is starting to make me wonder if she is really a Louie. She/he is starting to get the greenish feathers on the tail.

Hi,

i have a original Araucana cockerel.

The cross to some of my chickens gives yellow legs.

This year i have a cross with a hen (Mix between German Lachshuhn and Thaifighter)

The result is this:

now he is 4 weeks older and much more coloured


Also mixes to Italien races gives yellow legs.

The colour of the legs depends what is inside the animals DNS, because the origine can have yellow, green or black legs and that comes sometimes back.

Your Lilly is a cockerel. Very wide comb. Yep, you have a Louie.

That is the thing with EE's. The gene pool is all mixed up and it is a roll of the dice as to what combo you'll get when hatched.

Speckledhen would be better to guess than I would. I do agree that wide is an indication of a roo. As well as thicker heavier legs to stand on.

That one has a girly shaped comb, but the legs seem a tad thick. I just had the experience of an Ameraucana cockerel with a girly shaped comb. Fooled several of us, then it got red way too soon for a pullet. That's when I noticed the legs were very thick and it was actually larger overall than the other known cockerel. Its about 11 weeks old now, but the comb was very pinkish two weeks ago.
