Welcome. 10 sq feet per bird for run, plus 4 sq feet per bird in coop are the common recommended minimums. A year later, I wish I had gone larger. Go as large as you can, you'll have more space to add items to the run without it feeling crowded, and allowing the birds more space to get away from each other in case of disagreements.

Welcome to BYC! You want at least 10sqft per standard sized bird in the run but going bigger is always better.

Hi, how big is the coop you bought? Knowing the coop dimensions will give some direction as to how many chickens is recommended (you can't believe whatever the coop manufacturer states).

If you bought a prefab coop, it isn't worth the box it came in. It will be grossly undersized for the number of chickens it will claim it can house.
I disagree with the '10 sq ft per bird' run sizing rule. It's not enough space. Target 15 sq ft instead.
