My cockerel is 13wks and from the time we got him at 5 days old he's had poo pasted to his rear. I've had to give him numerous baths to get it off. I know baths are not good for them and also he hates it. He has plenty of water and has always eaten the same chick pellets (currently changing them over to growers pellets) as my hens but none of them have ever had this issue. He is in perfect health otherwise. Any ideas on what I can do to stop this? Oh I should add he has very loose stools most of the time but does have some more solid ones. Please help!!

Hi yes you can put a probotic into the water. Its good for the entire flock and adds bennificial bacteria into the gut and will balance his system. I personally use a probotic called Probios. You can get it online for around 12 dollars.I discovered it when my chicks had pasty butt and it works wonderfully! It has many good bacteria's that will balance the system. I hope this helps and wish you luck! This product has proven to be excellent for this very problem. I use it on my whole flock!

Fermented feed will also provide him and the rest of the flock with good bacteria cultures and probios. Theres a whole thread about FF in the meat bird section.

What breed is your rooster? I ask bc my rooster used to have the same problem. His bottom was always dirty and it was getting in the way of him fertilizing eggs. Anyway, he's a Silkie with a rather wide rear end. My theory is he can't reach his booty to keep it clean the way everyone else does. A butt fluff trim and switching to FF feed has cleaned him up. I trimmed the fluff while he was adjusting to the new feed (he mostly had runny poos, with a few semi solid ones. Now he has solid poos with the occasional runny one, like a normal chicken). Good luck, hope you get him sorted out!
