I have a 6 month old chicken.

About 6 weeks ago, I found 4 eggs inside my coop. I got all excited about finally having some production from my beautiful chicken.

That was the last time I found an egg. 6 weeks ago...

I had thought that maybe she was laying in my backyard somewhere. I looked in a few spots that she hangs out in, but didn't find any eggs.

I decided to coop her up for a week to see if she was producing. No eggs.

I have another chicken, who is younger, and maybe a bantam breed, she isn't laying either. But, she is younger and smaller, so no surprise.

What am I doing wrong? Is this normal?

We have been on a transitional layer/pullet feed. Weather here is good and mild.

If you are in the northern part of our planet, the days are getting shorter to the point of no more or only sketchy egg laying. To counter act the short days I use lights in the morning to add daylight so they are up 13.5 hours (where most of my girls go to work), some set their lights a bit longer, to much is bad also.
Of course one has to increase feed in the fall/winter months as well. I dont use layer feed as I keep roosters (bad for their liver), I use game bird chow.
Good luck!

Hi I saw your post and wondered about the Layers pellets. I have 2 hens and a Roo, about 7 months old and switched to Layers about 2 months ago, so all 3 eat the same as well as free range. How does one feed layers to hens and not to the Roo if it it bad for his liver?

Use something such as Purina Startina game bird chow for growth and feathers, or other brand game bird feed. It is higher in protein than layer pellets (It is not pelleted, I use it with chicks too) and does not harm the rooster with high calcium levels. Then I toss out the egg shells I use, also put out a pan of oyster shell for the girls to pick what they want..
I dont use layer feed,,,

Some use all flock or flockraiser as well. Depends if you are organic as well with rooster because the feeds provided for entire flock tend not to be organic at least that is true in my area. So layer feed may be all that’s available in adult feed that is organic. Luckily I don’t have a roo or face this dilemma.

Last time I ask for "all flock" or "flock-raiser" at the feed store they looked at me like I was speaking some alien language,,,
"never mind give me a bag of startina~"
