I have no idea what I am doing

As soon as i woke up and feed all the animals i went straight for the brooding and found a little duckling sitting under Moma! I was so excited to see the little thing~

I put a little tray in with the broody and her duckling filled with chick starter and it was so cute to watch her try and teach the duckling how to get as it peck it her face :love
I candled all the eggs again and eggs #3 and #8 have pipped internally! I can see there little head trying to break through the shell of the eggs so any day now they should be out! Oh this is so exciting i wish i could sit with them all day.

I'm really disappointed in the mother. She was doing fine with the duck this morning but now when ever the duckling tries to move around her she pecks him, Not aggressively but at the same time not gently, I put a towl over the brooding box to it's completely dark in there, I'm thinking once a couple more hatch i'll have to separate them... Which is really again disappointing..

She is telling it to sit still, hatch isn't done yet...

Thank you Raven... :bow
I really wasn't sure of what to do..
Everything seems alright now the duck finally seems to get the hole eating chirp call now and i have seen her peck at the duckling yet. Guess i was over worrying I just wasnt sure since this is only our second year owning ducks.. I still have lots more to learn about these strange birds.

No problem...

It's actually the difference with precocial and altricial offspring... chicks, ducklings, horses, etc are precocial... meaning they are capable of walking and feeding themselves within hours after hatch/birth... with those types of animals, the young must be able to learn quickly... gentle nudges don't always get that done, lol...

Humans are altricial, our babies are completely dependent on us... sometimes it's hard for us to not compare a precocial parent and offspring to our own...

Yes, That was another problem... The duckling wouldnt stop walking backwards until around this time if finally started to walk up right, I'm such a worry wart when it comes to baby anything.. Thanks again!
