I have no idea what I am doing

How are the pond and duck house coming along?
All I have done is change my mind on the size lol. I've finally decided on 10x15 and I already purchased the preformed pond. I'm not really doing well getting this together unfortunately. I really need to get her set up and out of the house ASAP. I probably should just hire someone but the materials alone are way more than I wanted to spend. I just need to bite the bullet and order the stuff already. How about you?

Well... This is it, The moment i've been waiting for right?
I just got back from shopping and went straight for the ducks...

I slightly lifted the chicken above the nest to see egg #8 (the twin egg) competently spit open.. and flattened with one.. dead deformed chick in it. I heart literally had broken and fell to the bottom of my chest when i saw the poor thing... It's organs seemed to be out of the duck's chest and it's feet were deformed so badly it could open up.. It was also covered with this thick green bugger like slime...
I took the duck and disposed of it along with the egg.. I was so sad and mad at the same time at myself thinking i helped it to much! I went back to check on egg #3 which is still trying to get through.. Kiwi was of course out of her nest making the moma hen freak out.

I felt my heart skip a beat when i heard pipping from under her. Thinking it was egg #3 i held it to my ear and began making peeping noise but it didnt respond.. Instead something under the chicken did...
So thinking 'one of the other eggs are hatch' are gently remove the hen out of the nest...i couldn't believe my eyes! this tiny..Tiny little duckling covered in the same buggery slime was laying in the nest making raspy little chirping sounds~! I put the hen right back on the duckling screaming with joy in my head..felt a little light headed for a moment even.
i ran back to my house, hopped into my little chair, turned on my computer and went straight for BYC~!

My hands are still trembling frm the excitement i wouldn't be surprised of there were tons of typos...!

i really do feel like going out side and screaming my head off with joy :wee:celebrate:celebrate:yesss:

I Really want to thank you guys for all the support you've given me~! I'll try and get some photos of the little guy ASAP! I just cant stand the excitement I really need to calm down first....:woot :ya :smackAlright... i think im good now :lau

I'll try and get some good photos from my phone as soon as i can!:lol:

Aww that's great! So happy for you!

Tell me about it! Already spent over 200 dollars in posts and concrete. Still got two posts buy and set too Cause we forgot the door.

I have found that every single project I do turns into something way bigger than anticipated. I started with 1 coop and decided it wasn't big enough.....so I ordered a second coop before the 1st one was ever put up. Then decided to make the run bigger....then decided on a metal seamed roof for the run.....then an awning for the front to help keep rain and sun out....then large slabs of flat stones around the perimeter.....I could go on and on. I now believe it will be an ongoing process for years and years to come. I think I need an intervention

Lmao join the club.

We looked at a lot of coop kits you can buy and put together and they are so expensive and not very sturdy.
I feel your pain. I wanted to do the concrete too but it will never get done if I need to dig ditches and fill them with concrete lol
All we did was concrete posts in the ground. Couldn't afford a concrete footer. Going to do the apron thing. But what we are building is probably over kill for six little ducks. But. . it will be solid!

I think that is what I'm doing

I hope your little duck made it ok. I just saw this thread. We had two hatch last summer. They were in a styrofoam cooler. It worked great. We found a YouTube video of how to set it up. Yes, it took ours another full day to come out after they made that first pip. They are a year old now and doing well.
