View attachment 1106718 View attachment 1106719 Update on the enclosure. I've gotten nowhere lol. But I think I have a better idea. I have a jacuzzi that is leaking and it has a house build onto it. I'm thinking of removing the jacuzzi and building a base about 3 feet high that will be covered in hardware cloth and she would have that area of 8x8 in all grass with an extension in hardware cloth to contain her pool. I take the top house part of the jacuzzi (it's not attached just resting on a frame built onto the jacuzzi)and place it over the frame and put her coop inside that. All four sides are surrounded by plexiglass with sliding doors that can be open in summer and closed in winter. Electric already there for heated water and probably considerably warmer during winters with all the windows. What do you think? Hoping this will save me quite a bit of money on material and labor costs too. Will this be ok for her?

I have beautiful zoysia grass where I will be putting the enclosure but I do not think there is anyway to cut up the grass mats without destroying the grass. It doesn't have to same root system as a regular grass but I do need to put the wire fencing under the run as well to make sure nobody takes underneath to get in. Short of calling in a contractor to dig a huge trench around it and fill it with concrete I guess I'll be digging all that grass up lol

I just skirt my run. Basically I cut two foot wide sections of half inch hardware cloth and attached it all the way around the run. You tack it down till grass grows through. Predators will not be able to dig in at the side of the run, and won't back up and try from over two feet away. It is necessary in Southwest Missouri to skirt because the ground is way too rocky to dig down 18 inches, and put wire straight down. I have it around all three of my runs and coops and I have never had anything dig in in the two years I have had them. That way they have the dirt inside the coop the chickens can dig in.

you and ant farm are very adamant about skirting, so i think about you two when i tell people about it
very busy but taking some time off work and doing more horseback riding
which in turn makes me more behind at work but its worth it!
