Good morning all. I hope everyone is staying warm during this deep freeze. I just read a terrible story I need to share with everyone especially during this cold snap. A woman had a light she used in her coop for a little warmth during cold weather. The bulb burned out and she replaced it in the morning. By that evening 19 of her chickens died because the bulb she used was coated in Teflon. please please make sure if you are using any light in your coop weather for lighting or heat that is not coated in Teflon. I never would have thought of that.

yep teflon is super bad for birds, if you have indoor birds you cant even use teflon coated cookware

I almost crapped myself when I read that story. We have a lamp in our coop that we use just for lighting but it's been below zero and we have been leaving it on for them during the day. Not sure if it's really doing any heating as it's just a regular lamp but I panicked because we just put a new bulb in a few days ago and I never would have known
